Bend & Sunriver, Oregon
Following our time in Crater Lake, we ventured 2 1/2 hours to Bend/Sunriver, where we spent four glorious days.
Our first day was spent exploring Bend. We hiked along the Deschutes River (quickly named "Da Shoes" by the kids), played downtown, and hit up the Sunriver Brewery for a beer and some snacks. That night we built an awesome fire and cooked dinner outside and played some games.
Day two was spent exploring the resort town of Sunriver on bikes. What a glorious day! We biked from the heart of Sunriver around the river loop, winding along the Deschutes River. The kids loved being on bikes, and the trail was perfect for them. We picnicked on the side of the river and explored a local park and played a few games before heading back to camp for dinner.
Our third day in the Bend area, we ventured north an hour to meet up with the McDonnell family (friends from college) at Black Butte Ranch. What a sweet spot! We had an amazing tour of the ranch and visited the natural springs, played pickle ball, basketball, horseshoes, and learned a new game called "Werewolf," which the kids loved. It was so fun catching up with Annie and Will and seeing this little slice of heaven!
Our fourth and final day in Bend was also Justin's Birthday! We ventured into Bend for the day, starting our day off with pastries from Sparrow Bakery, a Bend Institution. The Ocean roll, a croissant-like pastry, was to die for (it had been recommended to us by some friends who know the area well). We started off on bikes to explore, and ended up having the BEST time. We rode bikes through town and over to Sawyer Park, where we climbed rocks, caught tadpoles, and enjoyed the river, and then did some mountain biking to downtown Bend. The kids LOVED the mountain biking trail!!! After a few stops, we headed back to the RV to get the bikes situated, and then headed to dinner at Carson's at the Sunriver Resort to celebrate Justin's Birthday. Such a great day together.
