WASHINGTON, DC and NORTHERN VIRGINIA
After driving from Pittsburgh, we arrived in the Washington DC area in the late afternoon, heading straight to the home of my dear friend, Karen Barth, one of my college roommates. Her gorgeous home in Vienna, VA was our gathering place for the evening with her family, and my two other dear friends, Becky and Kristin. What a fun night together, catching up and watching our kids have a blast together also!
The next morning, we got up and spent the day exploring the DC Mall on bikes. We hit the Supreme Court, Capitol Building, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, White House, Jefferson Memorial, WW2 Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and Vietnam Memorial. Exploring on bikes was the perfect way to spend the day, as it was humid and we covered a LOT of ground. The kids were rockstars!
That evening, we headed to the Martini's new farm in Harwood, MD. It was so fun to see the property, and spend more time catching up with them and the Barths. And I will never forget our time sitting on their wrap-around porch after dinner in rocking chairs, talking about life and motherhood with my dear friends, watching fireflies light up the sky in front of us. Magic.
Our final day in DC, we slept in (we were WIPED), and headed to Mount Vernon, VA to spend the day. We had a blast exploring the property and grounds there with the Barth Family, and toured the Mansion. After a visit to the Museum, we drove through Alexandria, VA on our way home, and spent the evening at the pool. DC, you were so good to us, and a special thanks to the Barth, Martini, and O'Rourke families for their love and generosity during our stay!!!
