After our time in Biscayne National Park, our trip took an unexpected turn.  Earlier in the trip, about a week before, when we were driving the long route from Dallas, TX to Miami, FL, Justin and I had been talking (we have LOTS of time to talk in the car on these drives!), and he had flippantly asked me, "How far do you think Virgin Islands National Park is from Miami?" and "Can we even get to the Virgin Islands?"  (we did not have our passports with us in the RV, and "I wonder what it would take?" During that same drive, and later that night, we began to look and research and assess, and it appeared that flights from Miami to St. Thomas were pretty cheap, AND the kids did have a four day weekend from school that next weekend AND it turned out that passports were not required to visit the US Virgin Islands.  Hmmmmm.  We began talking to a dear friend of ours who has sailed through the USVIs and knew a TON about the area and logistics, and within a few days we had booked flights and a hotel to visit St. John that next week!!!!!  It turned out that there would be a few more hoops to jump through in order to make this pipedream come to fruition - including a fiasco with booking our Airline tickets (which ended up working out in our favor, but entailed hours on the phone with American Airlines), another fiasco trying to get all six of us COVID tested within the short window before leaving (Florida Public Health offices were the WORST, so we ended up paying to do it privately, as it was required for air travel), and another fiasco upon arriving at the airport to depart for our flight (more on that later).

Regardless, after our time in Biscayne, we found ourselves in Miami unexpectedly for 3 1/2 days, and we soaked up that opportunity to experience life as "Florida Retirees."  Haha.  The kids did school for the week from the RV Park, and we enjoyed many of the amenities there, including the pool, hot tub, mini golf, playground, and shuffleboard, and had fun bbq-ing, going for a few walks, having a family movie night, and making a trip to town to get some supplies for our upcoming trip to the Virgin Islands.  It was a great week in Miami together!

Grace's reminder by the RV dashboard to "Bring in the awning" on the RV before driving out of the park.  Want to guess why she put that there?!

Quinn spent a ton of time working on several "towns," a first grade project where they build towns out of recyclable materials.  He LOVED this project.

Playground obstacle course races in the dark...
Racing RC cars in the dark...
Justin with the "Bug Assault"
Lunchtime swim...
More "town" building..

Justin's workspace.
More schooling in our "One Room Schoolhouse"!
