After leaving Big Bend National Park, we drove all day, reaching Austin, Texas, that evening. We had planned to have dinner at the Salt Lick, a well-known barbecue restaurant located in Driftwood, Texas, right outside of Austin (we had hoped to go there this past summer, but it had eluded us on that trip). We pulled into the Salt Lick that evening, arriving in time for a late dinner, and really, really enjoyed the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork! After dinner, we drove into Austin late that night, where we stayed at the Pecan Grove RV park, right near the river and the Barton Springs area. We stayed at the same spot on our trip last summer, and really enjoyed the location. After sleeping in a bit, we got up to explore Austin, and made our way along the river and into the downtown area, where we had brunch at Veracruz Al Natural, a wonderful breakfast taco joint. The kids had a blast playing, and we escaped the rain on our hike back to the RV park. That evening, we enjoyed some margaritas from Chuy’s, and had a fun bonfire outside. The next morning, we woke up and headed on our way to Franklin’s barbecue, downtown, where we picked up some food for our New Year’s eve dinner, before heading to Dallas, Texas. Franklin's has the most amazing brisket we've ever had, so we knew we couldn't leave town without some! Onward to Dallas!
